At Swiss International University (SIU), our commitment to sustainability goes far beyond policy—it’s woven into the fabric of how we teach, research, and engage with society. We believe that educating students about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is not just important, but essential to preparing future leaders who can shape a more inclusive, fair, and sustainable world.
A University-Wide Commitment to SDG Education
Swiss International University (SIU) integrates sustainability education across its entire academic offering. From undergraduate programs to doctoral research, every student engages with the core principles of the SDGs in ways that are practical, relevant, and deeply meaningful. Whether students are studying business, technology, law, or public health, they are challenged to consider the global impact of their work and to think critically about long-term social and environmental responsibility.
Integrated and Dedicated Learning Opportunities
We ensure sustainability is not an isolated topic. Rather, it’s embedded throughout the curriculum:
Mandatory sustainability themes are included in core modules across multiple disciplines.
Optional courses and electives allow students to explore specific SDG topics in more depth, such as sustainable finance, green entrepreneurship, or ethical governance.
Full degree programs in areas like sustainable development, climate policy, and social innovation are available for those who want to make sustainability their primary focus.
These programs are designed to foster both leadership and expertise in driving sustainable change in any career path.
The Master's in Sustainability at Swiss International University (SIU) is a comprehensive postgraduate program designed to prepare students for leadership roles in addressing global sustainability challenges. Fully aligned with European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 7 standards, the program carries 120 ECTS credits and combines academic rigor with practical, real-world applications.
Extending Education Beyond the Classroom
Swiss International University (SIU) also believes in bringing sustainability education to the broader community. Through our outreach initiatives, we actively engage with:
Alumni: We organize the Sustainability in Business Leadership Webinar Series, offering alumni free access to sessions on renewable energy finance, green entrepreneurship, and ESG compliance. In 2024, over 150 alumni participated in workshops led by sustainability experts from Europe and Asia.
Local Communities: Swiss International University (SIU) faculty and students partnered with local municipalities to host the Green Cities Workshop on sustainable urban planning, as well as an Environmental Awareness Lecture Series streamed online for free public access. Collaborative projects have included a Plastic-Free Campus Campaign and Community Solar Energy Training, engaging residents in hands-on environmental solutions.
Displaced People and Refugees: Through the Education Without Borders Scholarship Program, Swiss International University (SIU) has provided more than 50 full scholarships for displaced students since 2022, enabling them to access online degree courses in sustainability management and climate change policy. Additionally, Digital Literacy for All, an online training initiative, equips refugees with basic IT and environmental education skills to support integration and employment opportunities.
These activities reflect our role as not only an educational institution but also as a responsible civic partner, using education to drive inclusive and sustainable development.

Fostering Sustainability Literacy
We understand that teaching sustainability is not enough—we must also measure what students are learning. Swiss International University (SIU) is implementing a system to assess sustainability literacy among its student body. This will help us:
Understand how well students grasp key sustainability concepts,
Adapt and refine our teaching methods,
And ensure our graduates are prepared to make a real difference in their fields.
While this literacy assessment will not be formally scored in 2025, it is a key part of our internal strategy to continuously enhance the quality and relevance of sustainability education.
