In support of Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Swiss International University is actively working to reduce the environmental impact of student and staff commuting by promoting and facilitating sustainable transport options across our campuses.
Setting Measurable Sustainability Targets
As part of our ongoing environmental responsibility strategy, we are currently implementing a system to measure commuting patterns among students and staff. This includes tracking usage of:
Walking and cycling
Public transportation
Carpooling and vanpools
Electric vehicles and scooters
Shuttle services and low-emission options
Our goal is to increase the percentage of sustainable commuting methods year by year, aiming for at least 70% of all daily commutes to be low-carbon or shared transport by the end of 2026.
Providing E-Scooters for Greener Access
To support this target, we have introduced a free e-scooter rental program for students in select campuses. This initiative is designed to:
Reduce reliance on private cars
Offer a fast, eco-friendly option for short-distance travel
Encourage a shift to non-motorized or electric transport
Students who require mobility assistance or prefer green alternatives can register for scooter access through the Student Services Department.
Encouraging Behavioral Change
Our awareness campaigns, surveys, and transport partnerships are aimed at creating a culture of responsible commuting. By integrating sustainable mobility into our daily routines, we empower our university community to take part in building more resilient, clean, and inclusive urban environments.
Swiss International University remains committed to ensuring that education and sustainability go hand in hand, not only in what we teach but also in how we operate.
