Because the vast majority of our academic programs are deeply rooted in management, we believe that teaching world-class leadership begins with demonstrating it. For us, this means taking uncompromising, data-driven action to ensure our campus operations meet the highest standards of environmental stewardship.

Today, we are proud to share our comprehensive framework for SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, detailing the strict operational policies and transparent waste tracking metrics that guide our university.

A Comprehensive Policy for Sustainable Operations

To significantly reduce our environmental footprint, Swiss International University has implemented a rigorous, university-wide Sustainable Consumption and Responsible Production Policy. This mandate applies not only to our students and faculty but extends strictly to all outsourced service providers and external supply chains.

Key pillars of our operational commitment include:

Ethical Sourcing: We prioritize local, seasonal, and sustainably farmed food products. All vendors must demonstrate compliance with international fair-trade, labor, and animal welfare standards before securing contracts with the university.
Eradicating Single-Use Plastics: The procurement and distribution of single-use plastics—including bags, straws, and water bottles—are strictly prohibited across all campus facilities and university-sponsored events.
Disposable Item Minimisation: We have mandated a transition to reusable alternatives in all administrative and catering functions. Where reusables are not feasible, items must be 100% compostable or made from fully recycled, biodegradable materials.
Hazardous Waste Control: Biological, chemical, and physical hazardous materials are strictly segregated and disposed of exclusively through certified contractors, ensuring zero cross-contamination with general or municipal waste streams.
Supply Chain Accountability: Our sustainability guidelines are legally binding for all external partners. From campus catering and cleaning contractors to suppliers of institutional equipment and construction, adherence to these environmental standards is a mandatory clause in all Service Level Agreements.

Transparent Measurement: 2025 Waste Tracking Report

True operational management requires transparent, continuous measurement. We mandate the tracking of all waste generated, recycled, and disposed of across 100% of our campuses, administrative offices, student accommodations, and outsourced operational areas.

In partnership with certified waste management contractors, all waste leaving our premises is weighed, categorized, and recorded. Below is our consolidated waste measurement summary for the 2025 operational year:
