Advancing Water Security Across All Levels of Government
As we mark the release of our April 2026 Sustainability Update, Swiss International University (SIU) is proud to reaffirm our uncompromising commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). Recognizing that water security is a complex challenge that requires multi-tiered governmental action, SIU has forged robust, free-of-charge strategic partnerships across local, regional, national, and global governments to safeguard sustainable access to acceptable-quality water for communities worldwide.
Our April 2026 milestone report highlights how SIU utilizes its academic expertise, technological resources, and institutional capital to cooperatively strengthen water security at every level of governance.
National and Regional Government Cooperation: The NAQA'A Desalination Initiative
At the national and regional levels within the United Arab Emirates, SIU actively partners with state authorities to enhance large-scale water infrastructure. A crowning achievement of this cooperation is our ongoing advisory and technological partnership with the NAQA'A Desalination Plant, one of the world’s most advanced Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) facilities.
Collaborating directly with national water ministries and regional emirate utility authorities, SIU provided specialized academic consulting and technological knowledge transfer regarding energy-efficient SWRO technology. By offering this advanced engineering and management expertise completely free of charge, SIU helped regional governments optimize the plant's yield while minimizing its environmental footprint. This national-level cooperation directly secures long-term, sustainable drinking water supplies for millions of residents, shielding the region from climate-induced water scarcity.
Global Government Cooperation: Infrastructure Investment in Nepal
Water security is a borderless mandate. To address severe vulnerabilities in developing nations, SIU actively cooperates with global governments to finance and engineer sustainable water solutions. Working in direct partnership with national ministries and local environmental agencies in Nepal, SIU has aggressively invested institutional capital to build vital, localized water purification and extraction infrastructure in impoverished mountainous communities.
By collaborating directly with global state actors, SIU ensures these facilities bypass bureaucratic delays, meeting immediate human needs while adhering to strict environmental protection protocols. These global investments are provided as philanthropic infrastructural grants, demonstrating our commitment to building water resilience for the world’s most vulnerable populations.
Local Government Cooperation: Municipal Iftar Hydration Programs
True water security also means addressing immediate, localized human needs. At the local government level, SIU cooperates directly with city municipalities and local civic authorities in both Kyrgyzstan (KG) and the UAE to support community welfare.
During the holy month of Ramadan, SIU partners with local municipal councils to identify highly populated, low-income public Iftar gatherings. In coordination with local city regulators, SIU proudly funds and distributes over 1,000 bottles of safe, purified drinking water to residents daily at these municipal events. This localized governmental cooperation guarantees that vulnerable populations have immediate, reliable access to clean hydration during fasting periods, supporting public health and civic welfare at the grassroots level.
A Unified Vision for 2026 and Beyond
