At Swiss International University (SIU), we have implemented strict processes to prevent polluted water from entering natural water systems or municipal drainage networks. In full compliance with global environmental standards and United Nations SDG 6, SIU maintains a proactive pollution prevention framework designed to safeguard water quality against accidental spills, chemical runoff, and operational incidents.

Comprehensive Pollution Prevention Processes

Although SIU is primarily a management and technology-focused institution, our daily operations—including facilities maintenance, campus landscaping, and HVAC cooling tower management—require the use of industrial cleaning agents, paints, and lubricants. To ensure these substances never contaminate local water tables or the marine ecosystem, SIU has enacted a strict Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan.

Key Protocols in Place:

Chemical Isolation and Safe Storage: All operational chemicals, cleaning fluids, and mechanical lubricants used by our facilities teams are strictly stored in secondary containment zones. These areas are structurally isolated from any floor drains or external water grids, ensuring that accidental leaks are contained and neutralized before reaching the water system.
Storm-Drain Interceptors: To prevent outdoor pollution, SIU campuses are equipped with advanced oil-and-water separators and sediment interceptors within our storm-drain networks. In the event of an accidental vehicle fluid leak in our parking facilities or chemical spills during external maintenance, these interceptors block hazardous pollutants from entering the municipal rainwater drainage system.
Hazardous Waste Disposal Contracts: SIU strictly prohibits the disposal of any chemical, oil, or hazardous liquid down campus sinks or drains. All such materials are collected by specialized, government-certified ecological waste contractors for safe, off-site neutralization.
Rapid Response Spill Kits: High-risk maintenance areas are equipped with ecological spill-response kits, and our contracted facilities staff undergo mandatory annual training on rapid pollution-containment procedures.
