Promoting Sustainable Commuting: Celebrating Our 2025 Achievements in Greener Campus Mobility
Throughout 2025, Swiss International University (SIU) made significant strides in reducing the environmental impact of our academic community’s daily travel. By actively promoting and facilitating sustainable transport options, we are ensuring our global campuses contribute to greener, more resilient urban ecosystems.
Data-Driven Sustainability Targets A major milestone of our 2025 environmental strategy was the full implementation of a commuting tracking system, powered by the digital infrastructure of our academic division, the VBNN Smart Education Group. This system accurately captures how our community commutes—whether by walking, cycling, public transport, shared rides, or private vehicles. Thanks to this data, we are proud to report that we are currently on track to meet our ambitious institutional goal: ensuring that 70% of all daily commutes utilize sustainable transport methods by the end of 2026.
Key 2025 Infrastructure and Mobility Actions
🚲 E-Scooters and Active Travel Infrastructure In 2025, we successfully expanded our free electric scooter program for students, significantly reducing reliance on cars for short-distance, "last-mile" campus travel. To complement this, we completed major campus upgrades to support active commuting, installing secure bike storage, modern shower facilities, and improved pedestrian signage to make cycling and walking highly practical and safe across our hubs.
🚌 Public Transport Partnerships SIU believes that public transit is the backbone of sustainable cities. Throughout the 2025 academic year, we proudly maintained strategic partnerships with municipal transit authorities in Zurich, Bishkek, and Dubai. By offering subsidized travel passes, we actively incentivized our students and staff to utilize local metro, bus, and rail systems over private vehicles.
🚗 Shared Transport and Digital Solutions To promote cleaner shared transit, SIU optimized its university shuttle services and expanded priority parking for electric vehicles (EVs). A standout achievement in 2025 was the successful launch of a student-designed carpool matching app. Developed under the mentorship of VBNN Smart Education Group, this app seamlessly syncs with SIU class schedules and local transport hubs to match riders, making eco-friendly ride-sharing both convenient and accessible.
Looking Ahead: The 2026 Green Mobility Horizon Driven by our sustainability team’s quarterly reviews and robust student feedback, our successful 2025 initiatives have laid the groundwork for our 2026 expansions. Moving forward, we are actively expanding our e-scooter fleet, hosting semester-long sustainable commuting campaigns, and officially recognizing students who demonstrate leadership in green transport choices.
At Swiss International University, sustainable commuting is a core responsibility. Together with our students, we are shaping a smarter, cleaner way to move—today and into the future.
